Challenges of LSE Plastics

Low surface energy (LSE) plastics, or commonly known as LSE plastics, include materials such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE or HDPE), polystyrene, acetal, EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), and coated paints.

In general, these plastic materials have low melting temperatures, making them easy to process, even in large quantities, and have low density, resulting in lightweight. Because low surface energy is a key characteristic of this plastic group, they are more difficult to bond, requiring specialized solutions such as low surface energy plastic adhesive tape.

Low surface energy (LSE) presents a challenge because the necessary plastic-to-plastic bond lacks adhesion and requires additional primers, which are costly, time-consuming, have unpleasant odors, and involve numerous other steps in the process. These challenges may hinder the bonding of synthetic materials and LSE plastics and ultimately alter the creative design process.
