Usage Instructions for Bostik S546 Sealant

A precisely sized joint can accommodate movements between different building materials. The depth of the joint should always be in proportion to its width. A general rule is that the depth-to-width ratio of the joint, up to 10mm width, is 1:1, with a minimum width and depth of 5mm. For joints wider than 10mm, the depth is calculated by dividing the width by 3 and adding 6mm.

Limitations

  • Not suitable for fish tanks and dry ponds.
  • Discoloration may occur in dark areas and areas exposed to chemicals.
  • Not suitable for PE, PP, PC, PMMA, PTFE, soft plastics, synthetic rubber, and bitumen substrates.

Surface Preparation & Finishing

Operating temperature: +5°C to +40°C (applicable to both environment and substrate). Ensure all surfaces are firm, clean, dry, free from oil or grease, and dust-free. Clean surfaces with a specialized cleaning solution. Bostik S546 adhesive adheres well without the need for primer on most non-porous surfaces. Porous substrates should be pre-treated with a specialized primer. Always perform an adhesion test before application.

Paintability

Bostik S546 Sealant cannot be painted. We recommend using masking tape to protect adjacent surfaces from silicone contamination.

Cleaning

Tools should be cleaned thoroughly after use with water. Hands can be washed with a cloth and/or water and soap. Hardened residues can only be removed mechanically.

Storage

When unopened and stored in its original packaging within a temperature range of +5°C to +25°C, the shelf life of the product is up to 12 months from the date of manufacture, stored in a dry place.
